Strawberries are the most popular berry in the United States. They are high in Vitamin C and Folic Acid and are a good source of Fiber. Over 80% of the world's supply of strawberries (about 1 billion pounds) are grown in California. The name may have been derived from the Anglo-Saxon verb to strew (spread). The name progressed to be know as streabergen, straberry, streberie, straibery, straubery, and finally, "STRAWBERRY". To pick good strawberries remember that they do not ripen after being harvested so pick the most red and full fruit. Store them in the refrigerator, but for the best flavor, allow them to warm up to room temperature before eating. Wait to wash them right before eating.
