Radishes are low in calories, fat-free and high in Vitamin C. To pick good radishes make sure they are moist and firm. Avoid radishes that appear dry, wilted, spongy, rough-skinned, or with external damage. The word radish comes from the Latin radix meaning root. It is a root in the mustard family and is related to horseradish, turnips and cabbage. At various points in it's history, the radish was used as medicine to cure baldness, to remove freckles and to cure snake bites.
