Kiwi is available year round. It has more Vitamin C than
an orange, more Potassium than a banana, more Vitamin E
than avocados and more Fiber than most breakfast cereals.
To pick a good kiwi look for one that gives slightly when
squeezed. It should feel like an avocado and not as soft
as a ripe peach or nectarine. Kiwi originated in China,
made it's way to New Zealand and since has been imported
into the United States. It was originally known as a Chinese
Gooseberry. In 1953 with the United States deep into the
McCarthy era of prejudice towards communism, the name was
changed to Kiwi after a New Zealand bird.
