Figs are a good source of fiber and are fat-free. They
do not ripen after being harvested. Figs should be slightly
soft when ideally ripe. Make sure there are no bruises or
blemishes from poor handling. Figs have a very short shelf
life. There are three popular varieties: Calimyrna, Mission,
and Kadota. An interesting fact is that figs are the most
mentioned fruit in the Bible.
