Avocados are available year round. They are grown on a
tree and come in many shapes and varieties. They have a
significant amount of fat, however are very healthy. The
amount of oil in each avocado is equal to the strength of
the flavor. They are cholesterol free and have good amounts
of Vitamin A and Potassium. To pick out a perfectly ripe
avocado, gently press on the skin. If it gives slightly
to pressure, it's at the right stage for eating. Because
avocados breath ethylene as they ripen, they will brown
when cut in half. To avoid this just rub some lemon or lime
juice on the flesh.
